So, if a month ago you would have told me St. Pat's would have 161 registrants for "Race to Hear", I would have puffed a "yeah right!". But, we did!!!!"Big Red", "We Are Athletes", "St. Pat's CYO", "Fuerza Nueva", "Hospitalidad Hispanos", the St. Pat's hispanic and english children's choir, St. Pat's English adult choir and many other groups all turned up the support. We even had a speedy couple come in from Manhattan! Our own Mayor Suozzi decided to help push the kids on by running the Kid's Fun Run. Serious! By the way, click on the links to the right to find your race results and to order pictures from the day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The day was gorgeous. Lucky for our first time racers! We tried to apologize for the hilly race course, but what did we get as a response? "What a beautiful course!", "Glen Cove is gorgeous, so the hills were fine", "It was challenging, but that straight away at the end made up for it". So, okay, the course wasn't as bad as we thought. In fact, it seems, it was great! So, thank you to all the residents and businesses in Glen Cove who welcomed us with open arms and helped our runners see why they should come back to the City of Glen Cove.
Thank you to all our partners who contributed (list is on the right). Without you, we would not have been able to make this a proper chip/timed race. Thank you to the hispanics and El Tazumal for donating every last bit of water for the racers. In fact, the owner of El Tazumal even went and ran the race - under 40 minutes! Bill Capobianco for being there at the crack of dawn with our committee. Jennifer Rehm and the rest of the ladies from the Atria fed all our runners with apples, bananas, bagels and (unfortunately) DELICIOUS cookies. Juliet Serrano from Fidelis made sure our people were entertained with a face painting clown and KTU! St. Francis was there doing free blood pressure tests for the English AND Spanish speaking community. Gold Martial Arts put on a wonderful dispaly while kids and, I came to find out, adults "spray painted" their t-shirts (playeras) with Sister Theresa! The ladies at the registration tent, Olga at the drink booth, Mr. O'Rourke MC'ing and my Aunt Clare at the raffle booth - you rock! A special thanks to the vocal stylings of Megan O'Rourke - you are a star!
Our "behind-the-scenes" groups? We had four:
The Mayors Office - Maureen, can I just keep you around for any emergencies in life?
CYO - this just would not have gone the way it did if it weren't for Gene Rooney and Carlos Taborda
The Chamber of Commerce - Mary Stanco, wow!
The Police - so, who ordered the nice cops to work in Glen Cove?
The last three people I need to thank are Rich Lucidi (Garden City Printers), Craig and Dwight (Start to Finish Corp.)
If I forgot to thank anyone here, trust that it's just because I have officially realized I am DEAD TIRED. Along with my committee, it has been countless hours of donated time. Every minute... worth it! When we have all had sleep, you can be sure we will give you a shout out!
Thank you from St. Patrick's On the Hill! (picture: Carlos Taborda - race rabbit, CYO)

Will there be a "Race to Hear 2009" event? My fiance and I had such a great time last year.
I am so happy to hear that! We have decided to do it bi-annually. Hopefully, you will have be there in support next year!
